Besides academic work, the school lays great emphasis on sports and extra-curricular activities. Keeping in mind the differing perspectives of today’s world and an overall development of the students, the school offers various opportunities for its students to enhance their diverse potentials to bring forth, foster and enhance their varied abilities. 

There are opportunities like debates, essay writing, quizzes, music, dance and drama, art and painting, educational tours etc. Our extra-curricular programme runs in conjunction with our house teams. Most Saturdays, events are organised allowing students to work with others of different ages, encouraging co-operation, team spirit and some healthy competition. We see the establishment of extra-curricular programmes as paramount in fostering personal growth and promoting leadership.

Reading

At St. Matthew’s, we value books. From Nursery to Class XII we encourage a love of reading, both for the sheer joy of it and because it is the most useful technological tool in the student's range of skills. In addition to formal reading spaces, the Library has digital books and also quiet story-telling corners. Our reading material comes from a variety of sources, India and abroad.

Music, Dance and Drama

St. Matthew’s takes initiative in acquainting students with our cultural ethos and tries to retain our heritage through music, dance and drama which is very enriching and rewarding for the students.

Drama
The school acquaints its students with finer nuances of theatre and drama.  The school organises lectures, demonstrations by eminent theatre personalities, study tours and conducts drama workshops focusing on different facets of theatre.

Dance
The School provides Every student has opportunity to learn western and classical dance under the expert guidance of dance teachers.

Music
The Music Room is equipped with a set of keyboards; each keyboard having two pairs of headphones so that students can work together without disturbing others. Students learn to find their way around the keyboard, learn to read simple music and perform in front of their classmates.  We provide various instruments for the students: Guitars, Drums, Keyboards, Vocals, Tabla, Recorders. The expert Music teacher guides the students through the music experience.

Every year we host programmes displaying our students’ skills in dance, drama and singing. As part of our Kid's Encore, weekly practices are held to encourage musical abilities in our children.

Sports

Our sporting successes have included winning positions for our athletics, boxing and cricket teams. We have sports activities so that students from all age groups can enjoy, relax and exercise all at the same time. We have first class coaches who are ready to help the students and teach the students how to develop skills and good sportsmanship.

Sports taught at St Matthew’s include athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, handball,  kho-kho, volleyball and international cooperative games. Opportunities are also available to practice table tennis, boxing, taekwondo, chess, carom and yoga.

Art & Craft

Out students bring out their creativity through art and craft.  The school’s art & craft experts teach students glass painting, emboss painting, tie and dye, pottery, origami, sketching and a range of craft activities.

Student Council

The formal link between faculty and students is the democratically-elected Student Council, which includes faculty advisers.These students are the designated leaders of the school body and, although they are appointed to specific portfolios, they are expected to exercise leadership in all areas of the School community. The Council, which has Primary, Middle and Secondary School divisions, is involved in a wide range of projects including the development of clubs and societies and the organisation of disciplinary systems and peer-counselling. It is also consulted from time to time by the Administration on such matters as the development of curriculum and facilities.

Eco-Club

At St.Matthew’s the students have the opportunity to be part of Eco-club. Students are given the opportunity to participate in nature walks and field trips.

National Scouts

The National scouts aims at development of the overall personality of students and inculate in them qualities of courage, leadership, discipline and selfless service through its value oriented training. It also provides a suitable environment to motivate the students to take up career in defence services.
